Recently, I have noticed that the amount of screen time I spend – both at work and in my personal life – has left me feeling less mentally sharp than I used to be.
It is something that genuinely bothers me, as I would have once described my mind as more focused and alert. I know this is a common concern people talk about online, but it raises a real question: what can we actually do to help rebalance our minds?
With busy days and packed weeks, I had somehow forgotten the simple value of picking up a book. I enjoy watching series and films, but I had lost the habit of reading a story and allowing my mind to slow down and switch off.
A few days ago, I started reading again after a colleague recommended a good book, and I immediately noticed how much easier it was to fall asleep afterwards.
I also realised I have developed a habit of falling asleep with screens right in front of me, which I know disrupts sleep quality. But, by reading, I have noticed that it is easier for my mind to slowly drift off.
Sometimes, we need to remind ourselves of the importance of activities that genuinely engage and sharpen the mind, rather than spending endless hours on screens that often don’t add much value.
