Hundreds recently gathered at the Indian Embassy in Seef to celebrate Independence Day, but as the event progressed, a different kind of ‘national spirit’ took over.
The moment food boxes were announced, order vanished. People rushed to the counters, pushing, pulling, and hoarding extra boxes without a thought for those left empty-handed. The tea stalls saw the same chaotic scramble, with crowd safety taking a back seat to impatience.
It’s the same familiar scene we witness every time an airplane touches down: passengers instantly leaping from their seats, pushing through the aisle to grab overhead luggage.
Is this really the behaviour we want to represent us?
When will we learn the simple courtesy of waiting our turn?
