A malicious pathogenic bacteria has been identified as the main cause for the huge quantity of dead fish washing up on the Kuwaiti coast over the past few days, according to Al Qabas newspaper.
The Public Authority for the Environment announced the initial findings of the investigation, pointing out the impact of sewage discharge on coastal areas, especially the beaches of Al Salam, Al Showeikh, Al Doha, Ashiraj and Umm Al Namli Island.
In a bid to allay the public's fears, the authority said that all the fish in the market are safe for human consumption.
“The municipality of Kuwait City, the Food Authority and the Ministry are monitoring fish to ensure their safety,” the Public Authority for the Environment said.
