Dubai: A bachelor from India’s southern Tamil Nadu state initially considered it to be a prank call when organisers of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF 2016) called him to inform he had won 1 kilogram of gold worth AED118,000. After the first call, he had put his mobile phone in silent mode.
“When I checked my phone again, I had 10 missed calls. I finally spoke to them and they told me I needed to report at a certain time to claim the prize. That’s when it sunk in,” said Iqbal.
A. Iqbal won the gold on January 15 as part of the daily raffle by Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group (DGJG) during DSF, running January 1 to February 1, reported English online Gulf News.
With this, he can now realise his dreams of a new home and get his sister married.
Three shoppers are being rewarded every day at the daily draws, with a first prize of one kilogram of gold, second prize of half a kilogram of gold and a third prize of a quarter kilogram of gold.
