TWO political societies have been dissolved at their own request, it emerged.
Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa issued a ministerial edict yesterday to dissolve the National Justice Movement (Al Adala) and the National Dialogue Society (Hawar) because they did not fulfil the legal conditions to continue political activities and to commit to their stated goals.
The minister issued another edict ordering the Political Societies Directorate to start procedures to liquidate assets and refer the money to national coffers.
This means that active political societies in Bahrain have shrunk down to 11 from an original 18 groups.
Four societies – Al Adala, Hawar, Justice and Development Society, and Al Ekhaa National Society – were dissolved at their own request, while court orders were issued to dissolve three others – Al Wefaq National Islamic Society, the National Democratic Action Society (NDAS) and the Islamic Action Society (Amal).
