JAVIER Montes of Spain last night completed a grand double in the eighth E K Kanoo Juniors Open Tennis Championship 2020 at Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) in Juffair.
Montes was crowned champion in the boys under-12 singles and doubles. He claimed the doubles title with playing partner Talal Al Sayed of Bahrain.
Also winning titles yesterday were Eira Gabrielle Corral from the Philippines and Zaidan Hajjar from Bahrain.
Eira claimed the girls under-16 singles crown while Zaidan won in the under-12 honours.
Montes began the day by securing his singles crown with a comfortable 6-0, 6-0 win over Zayn Siddiqi from Pakistan in the final.
The young Spaniard then teamed up with Al Sayed in the doubles final and the duo battled past Siddiqi and teammate Vyom Gupta of India.
It was a tightly contested affair with both pairs pushing each other to the limit, but in the end it was Montes and Al Sayed who did enough to narrowly claim a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
Meanwhile, Eira and Zaidan also needed to go the extra mile before claiming their respective trophies.
Eira defeated Khadija Moussa of Egypt 6-2, 4-6, 12-10 in a super tie-break while Zaidan overcame the tough challenge of Leanne Sinocruz from the Philippines 6-1, 6-7 (6), 10-4, also in a super tie-break.
Tournament action continues today at BTC. All are welcome to attend. Entrance is free.
