Award-winning Bahraini author, playwright and producer Fareed Ramadan died yesterday after a prolonged battle with illness.
He was 59.
Mr Ramadan wrote for several Arabic newspapers in Bahrain and represented the kingdom in the region and around the world.
The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities expressed condolences and praised his efforts in raising Bahrain’s name and status worldwide.
“Here we are bidding farewell to a cultural leader who has always had a role in raising the name of Bahrain in Gulf and Arab creative fields,” said the statement.
“Author and screenwriter Fareed Ramadan was an example of a creative person who never stopped producing despite the difficult circumstances, he left us a legacy that will remain in the minds of Bahraini, Gulf and Arab culture,” it said.
Mr Ramadan penned many fictional works, prominent among them being the collection of short stories Al-Bayad and novels Tannour - A Cloud for Bab Al Bahrain, Al Barzakh and his latest The English Ocean.
He has also penned a number of award-winning plays.
He is survived by his wife Amal Abdulwahab, and his son Mahmood and daughter Reem.
He was suffering from sickle cell anaemia.
