Despite my constant preoccupation with managing various projects and my businesses, like any businessman with diverse investments in more than one sector and in many countries, a while ago I decided to devote a small part of my time to writing a book.
This is mainly a review of my life path from the time of my youth through the university and then my career. In many chapters of the book, I focused on my work in the advertising industry for more than 30 years.
It took me about five years to complete my work on writing the content of this book, and then I released it in 2019 under the title I am not Done. It has surprisingly achieved success. I say that, because I am well aware that these days most people, especially in the Arab region, don’t read. A number of factors prevent them from doing so. These include an abundance of sources of knowledge, cultural flatness, the requirements of living, and the conditions of daily life.
So, I can say that, to a large extent I am extremely satisfied with how well my book has done as it has so far sold more than 3,000 copies through Amazon. This is in addition to selling more than a thousand copies through libraries in countries such as Lebanon, Dubai, and many European countries, as I issued the book in Arabic and English at the same time.
In my book I ended at the year 2000 because that year witnessed a major transformation in my professional life with the emergence of what was later termed the digital age, and the major transformations that it brought about in the advertising industry.
I realised at the time that 30 years of working in this industry is enough after achieving all possible success in this field through my company ‘Fortune Promoseven’. I decided to assign the responsibility of completing the work to an elite group of human cadres that I had been grooming for a long time, and I moved on to another field of work – real estate. I am pleased to report that in this field too, by the grace of the Almighty, I have been successful.
Based on my belief in my responsibility towards the people around me and the positive response to my first book I decided, about a year ago, to start preparing another one.
I think this book too has its place of value and importance in my life, equal to the events that are recorded in my first book. The new book traces my professional career during the past two decades, which mainly revolves around my real estate activities and other ventures.
It lists details of an advanced stage in my career, a stage in which I reached the height of cognitive and professional maturity.
I became more knowledgeable and wiser while being able to ignite the kind and level of enthusiasm and passion that exists in the hearts of young people. As with all new phases, this also held many challenges.
I relived all the sweet and painful memories that I have recounted in the book.
I entered the real estate business with the ethics of a businessman who adhered to his word, but in time it became clear to me that many of my partners and the people around me are the opposite of that.
It’s no secret that I faced challenges while working on this book that I did not face in my first. In that one, I was happy to name the people who lived and worked with me at every stage and project. Most of them, if not all, helped me and were honest with me.
Life is a great teacher. Working in real estate taught me an important, and I believe, sad lesson.
And that is, when it comes to property, real estate, and land, trustworthy people are an extremely rare commodity.
My new book will be a lesson on human nature as much as it is an exposition on the intricacies of dealing with various aspects of the field – from acquisition to development, from selling to holding. I can assure you it will give you moments of tension, amusement, excitement and happiness. I hope, when it is released, you will get as much joy in reading it as I had in writing it.
