Bahrain’s first-ever professional cyclist, Ahmed Madan, made his race debut yesterday in the challenging ‘Tour de Hongrie’ across mountainous terrain in Central Europe.
He is part of a strong Team Bahrain Victorious in Hungary that combines youth with experience.
“It was a perfect first day of racing with the team," he said. "All the guys were really welcoming and helpful with my first race. The team all stayed together, and I was moving well with the team. I pulled back when the pace picked up for the sprint, but the guys did a perfect job and took the win.
"After the race, we heard the news about Mikel’s crash, and I really hope he recovers soon.”
"Amazing work by the team. But our team leader crashed out of the Giro today. So, mix emotions day. But still, staying strong and happy.", Ahmed told the GDN.
Madan is joined by Phil Bauhaus, Santiago Buitrago Sanchez, Heinrich Haussler, Marcel Sieberg and Fred Wright in Hungary. With this being his first-ever professional race he is looking to learn yet contribute as much to the team cause as possible, supporting more experienced riders in their pursuit of more victories.
