Civil Defence Director General Air Commodore Ali Mohammed Al Kubaisi has emphasised the importance of taking necessary safety and security measures to avoid accidents and fires during the summer season.
He pointed out that overloading electricity and neglecting the maintenance of household appliances can lead to electrical short circuits. He also noted that high temperatures and heavy electrical loads contribute to the rapid spread of fires.
The number of fire incidents handled by the Civil Defence brigades reached 1,258 in the summer of 2023 and 1,441 cases in the summer of 2024, he explained. He stressed the need to avoid operating multiple electrical devices on a single power source at the same time.
Air Commodore Al Kubaisi also emphasised the importance of regular maintenance of electrical appliances and ensuring the quality of wiring. In addition, he urged drivers to conduct regular maintenance of their vehicles and check the cooling systems.
He also noted that the General Directorate of Civil Defence is stepping up its preventive efforts by launching awareness programmes.
These include training courses and workshops for the public, as well as field inspections that involve giving advice and distributing brochures in commercial establishments, shared residential buildings, and fuel stations to ensure compliance with safety standards.
