Interior Minister and chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology (MCICT) General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa chaired the committee’s meeting.
Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Cabinet Affairs Minister Hamad Al Malki, Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma, Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro and Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) chief executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed were present.
The chairman commended the directives of His Majesty King Hamad, which support the kingdom’s comprehensive digital transformation to ensure digital sustainability and fulfil strategic aspirations.
Gen Shaikh Rashid praised the continuous follow-up by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on initiatives aimed at improving government service efficiency and modernising all aspects of government operations, which have positioned Bahrain among the global leaders in the UN e-Government Development Index (EGDI).
Following the ratification of the previous meeting’s minutes and review of decisions, the committee discussed items on the agenda, including the latest updates on enhancing government services and ensuring their continuous development.
The minister emphasised the importance of implementing an executive plan to achieve 100 per cent digitalisation of all eligible government services.
The committee also approved the national digital economy strategy and its alignment with the national digital trade strategy, following a briefing by the Industry and Commerce Ministry.
The committee also reviewed several proposals from the iGA, including policies related to UN indicators and a proposed code of ethics for artificial intelligence. It was decided to subject these topics to further study.
