Bahrain has launched a national strategy to combat money laundering, terrorism financing and weapons proliferation (2025-2027).
Announcing the launch, Interior Minister and Committee for Combating Extremism, Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering chairman General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said that the strategy serves as a cornerstone for building the national economy.
The strategy reflects His Majesty King Hamad’s vision for reform and stability, and follows the directives of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in supporting Bahrain’s security, development and prosperity, he said.
He expressed appreciation to the Finance and National Economy Minister for his contributions and commended the Financial Intelligence National Centre (FINC), chaired by Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, for its leading role in financial intelligence and the committee’s efforts to combat money laundering, terrorism financing and weapons proliferation.
Gen Shaikh Rashid underscored the importance of vigilance and proactive monitoring, praising committee members for their national, legislative and legal contributions.
Shaikha Mai said that the strategy underscores Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing framework, ensuring financial system integrity and economic stability.
She noted that the Second National Risk Assessment was prepared through a broad participatory approach involving government agencies, private sector representatives, and all relevant stakeholders, and that it forms the foundation of the National Action Plan to address and mitigate identified risks.
The ceremony was attended by Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa; Defence Affairs Minister Lieutenant General Abdulla Al Nuaimi; Attorney General Dr Ali Al Buainain; Information Minister Dr Ramzan Al Nuaimi; and Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Nawaf Al Maawda.
