The search is still on for a missing Bahraini seafarer, seven days after he went missing during a mid-sea collision.

Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said that investigations were also underway regarding the circumstances of the maritime incident and expressed his sympathy and support for the man’s family.

Two other men have been detained by investigators after they were involved in the October 20 incident that resulted in a third sailor falling into the sea.

It occurred as Coastguard patrols were carrying out security duties in the Fasht Al Adham area.

A boat was detected allegedly engaging in catching shrimps using prohibited equipment.

When officers tried to intercept the vessel, the crew tried to flee but ended up colliding with the patrol boat.

The suspects, whose ages and nationalities were not revealed, were operating the boat without navigation lights and fishing using banned bottom trawling nets.

They had also covered their vessel’s licence plate and had disabled its identification system.

When ordered to stop, the suspects tried to flee, at which point their boat veered towards the Coastguard vessel.

A collision occurred after members of the crew cut the trawling ropes.

Gen Shaikh Rashid said that search efforts were ongoing to locate the missing sailor and highlighted the importance of seafarers' cooperation with the Coastguard and urged all seafarers to adhere to safety instructions and guidelines to protect their well-being.
