Online fraud suspect held

A woman, described by authorities as an African national, has been arrested in connection with online fraud and scams, the Interior Ministry announced yesterday.

The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security said approximately BD700,000 had been recovered.

The directorate said it received information about suspicious financial transactions involving a bank account, which were subsequently found to be linked to fraudulent operations originating outside the kingdom.

A team of specialists launched an investigation, gathering information and evidence that led them to trace funds transferred to an account linked to the scam after a company fell victim to online fraud.

The company’s money was recovered in full, along with additional funds linked to other overseas fraud operations, bringing the total amount recovered to approximately BD700,000.

The suspect was arrested after the necessary legal procedures were completed and was referred to the Public Prosecution.
