A study published by Broadcast Pro Middle East magazine, which specialises in television, radio and film broadcasting technology, has commended Bahrain’s Information Ministry’s multi-channel operating system based on the Internet Protocol, which was launched recently.
The ministry was praised as the first government agency in the GCC to apply this modern technology, which offers very advanced capabilities in studios.
Assistant under-secretary for technical affairs Abdulla Al Balushi said in an interview with Broadcast Pro that the hi-tech system enabled the ministry to formulate a path that meets the needs of the future, and raises the bar on broadcast quality standards in the region.
“This project is the latest in the ministry as the previous infrastructure was replaced with IP-based technologies and advanced data preparation as well as control modes SMPTE ST 2110, which enables the five Bahrain TV channels to simplify workflow and provide system flexibility,” he said.
Mr Al Balushi said Bahrain is closely following the development of new technologies that enable it to prepare for the requirements of the future, especially since all current broadcast means require Internet Protocol. He pointed out that Bahrain TV adapts its content according to the display platform used, which is facilitated by the use of Internet Protocol technology, while maintaining broadcast quality.
The ministry is working according to a 10-year plan to develop broadcasting technologies, he said, pointing to the launch of new radio technologies months ago and the new news studio equipped with 4K technology equipment, which will be followed by work on modernising the rest of the technical infrastructure, including terrestrial broadcasting and live production vehicles to keep pace with sports activity.
