The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam’s Indo-Bahrain Dance and Music Festival ended last night with a special Carnatic classical violin recital by one of India’s top musicians.
Renowned Indian violinist, composer and conductor Dr Lakshminarayana Subramaniam serenaded audiences with a series of original and improvised compositions.
He was joined on stage by mridangam player VV Ramana Murthy, ghatam artist N Radhakrishnan, Latha Ramachar playing the kanjeera and Ghantasala Satyasai on morsing.
The festival, which started on May 3, featured classical, fusion and modern dance and music performers from India and Bahrain.
The event had kicked off with a performance by Sakhi, a semi-classical fusion by the first all-women classical band in India, led by the talented vocalist Kaushiki Chakrabarty.
Amongst other performances were Carnatic percussion and Bharathanatyam ensemble by Umayalpuram Kasiviswanatha Sivaraman and Parshwanath Upadhye, a musical show ‘Agni 3’ by Soorya Krishnamoorthy, an Arabic instrumental and vocal performance by Bahraini artist Faisal Al Kooheji, vocal recital by father-daughter duo P Unnikrishnan and Uthara, concert by Vijay Yesudas and dance performances by Vidya Pradeep, Anitha, Priyadarshini Govind and Vidhya Subramanian.
