All ministries, government departments and institutions will be closed on Sunday in support of the national football team which will be playing in the 26th Gulf Cup final against Oman in Kuwait on Saturday.
Under the directives of His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, issued the order yesterday.
The royal directive reflects His Majesty’s commitment to supporting sports and athletes, as well as HRH Prince Salman’s dedication to fostering national unity and encouraging Bahraini citizens to stand united behind the team during this landmark sporting event.
The decision accommodates fans attending the historic match in Kuwait.
It accounts for logistical challenges faced by them as they will not be able to return from Kuwait before the start of official work hours.
“We ask God Almighty to grant the national team success in achieving a new accomplishment that enhances the status of the kingdom on the regional and international arenas, and represents a source of pride and honour for all its people,” said a statement.
On Tuesday, His Majesty commended the national team after it secured a spot in the Arabian Gulf Cup (Khaleeji Zain 26) final following a 1-0 victory over Kuwait at Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium in the tournament’s semi-final match. The match’s lone goal was scored by Mohamed Jassim Marhoon in the 74th minute.
Bahrain played with 10 men from the 51st minute following a red card shown to Mahdi Abduljabbar.
The King expressed pride in the team’s performance, commending the players, technical staff and administrators for their efforts.
- The Education Ministry has rescheduled the first-term final exams in light of the royal directives and the order of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, announcing Sunday as a public holiday.
