Four new guidelines aimed at regulating veterinary services and animal livestock management have been issued by the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry.
The guidelines cover animal immunisation services, licencing for veterinary medical facilities, the import and export of veterinary medical products and the practice of veterinary medicine.
The announcement was made by Under-Secretary for Agriculture Assem Abdullatif, who highlighted that the guidelines were designed to simplify procedures and raise awareness amongst people in the animal production sector.
“These guidelines aim to educate citizens and investors about the licensing requirements for various services in a simplified manner,” said Mr Abdullatif. “By doing so, we hope to encourage and support the local animal production sector, contributing to strengthening Bahrain’s food security,” he added.
Highlighting the first guideline on animal immunisation, Mr Abdullatif explained that it provides comprehensive instructions for best practices to ensure the health and safety of livestock.
“This guideline is a tool for reducing the spread of epidemics and increasing livestock productivity, which in turn supports food security,” he said. “It outlines all the steps required to access immunisation services.”
The second guideline focuses on the licensing of veterinary medical facilities. Mr Abdullatif noted that its primary aim is to regulate the procedures necessary to ensure high-quality veterinary services that meet professional and health standards.
“The licensing of veterinary facilities helps enhance the safety of livestock and protects public health by ensuring compliance with professional requirements,” he explained.
“The guideline clearly outlines the steps and requirements needed to obtain a licence.”
The third guideline pertains to the import and export of veterinary medical products.
Mr Abdullatif emphasised that the guideline is designed to regulate the procedures for handling such products, ensuring their compliance with health standards.
“This is crucial for safeguarding the health and safety of livestock,” he said. “By ensuring the quality of veterinary products and strengthening health monitoring systems, we can better protect animal resources.”
The final guideline focuses on regulating veterinary professions to ensure the provision of high-quality services.
“It is essential to organise the veterinary sector to protect public health and ensure the implementation of relevant regulations and legislations. This guideline is a step toward achieving that goal,” added Mr Abdullatif.
He pointed out that all four guidelines are available on the ministry’s official website (www.mun.gov.bh).
“Anyone interested in livestock services – whether individuals or institutions – can access the guidelines on our website,” said Mr Abdullatif. “These documents simplify the licensing process and provide clear and effective answers to common questions, ensuring a smooth experience for all stakeholders.
“The new guidelines are part of the ministry’s broader efforts to enhance Bahrain’s food security by supporting local animal production and ensuring the health and safety of livestock.
“They are a key initiative toward developing the animal production sector.
“By clarifying and streamlining the necessary procedures, we can enhance the quality and efficiency of the services provided, benefiting both the public and the industry as a whole.”
He explained that the issuance of these guidelines marks a significant step forward in the regulation and improvement of veterinary and animal livestock services, aligning with Bahrain’s vision for sustainable agricultural development and food security.
