Bahrain had completed 68 per cent of the projects and initiatives outlined in the government programme (2023-2026) by the end of the second year of the current legislative term, exceeding the target for the past two years by 18pc, it was declared yesterday.
Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa noted the focus on governance, efficient use of public funds and maintaining accountability, has led to tangible improvements in living standards, public services and sustainable development.
He was speaking at a meeting, held under the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to brief Parliament on the latest updates regarding the implementation of the government programme.
The joint meeting was chaired by Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam on behalf of the legislators and Shaikh Khalid on behalf of the government.
The government delegation included Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Shura and Parliament Affairs Minister Ghanim Al Buainain, Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak, Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj, Health Minister Dr Jalila Al Sayyed, Cabinet Affairs Minister Hamad Al Malki, Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna Al Romaihi and Social Development Minister Osama Al Alawi, along with several officials.
Mr Al Musallam expressed pride in the productive and constructive co-operation between the executive and legislative authorities, which has resulted in many achievements across various sectors.
He noted that these efforts align with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad and the support and follow-up of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Mr Al Musallam highlighted that Parliament’s unanimous approval of the government programme (2023-2026), with its four priorities and six pillars, reflects a shared commitment to achieving national aspirations.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised HRH the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister’s commitment to institutionalising integration and consultation as guiding principles for the relationship between the executive and legislative branches, in line with the vision of the King.
During the meeting, Mr Al Malki provided an overview of the electronic system used to monitor the programme’s implementation.
A presentation followed, detailing efforts over the past two years to implement the programme’s six pillars: improving living standards, sovereignty and legislation, infrastructure and environment, economic recovery and fiscal sustainability, social services, government performance and digital transformation.
These pillars are derived from the programme’s four priorities: preserving citizens’ achievements, ensuring justice and stability, achieving economic recovery and sustainable development and providing high-quality, competitive government services.
