INSPECTIONS against illegal street vendors are continuing across Manama.
Images showing workers removing crates of produce sold openly on Sa’sa Avenue and Shaikh Hamad Avenue were posted on the Capital Municipality’s social media accounts.
The confiscated products included fruit and vegetables sold in the open, flouting safety and hygiene regulations. Cleaners cleared the crates of products from the streets.
They also removed clothes, shoes and electronic chargers that were also being sold by street vendors without proper permits in Blocks 302 and 304.
Councillors in the past have called for year-round inspections across the four governorates to combat makeshift markets operated by undocumented expatriates that regularly block public footpaths and take business from small and legitimate traders.
Members of the public can report concerns by emailing the Industry and Commerce Ministry at consumer_protection@moic.gov.bh or by calling 17007003.
