Protection from domestic violence, screening for breast cancer and the impact of anxiety on women’s physical and mental health will be among the key topics discussed at a major health conference to be held later this year.
The Bahrain International Women’s Health Conference and Exhibition, organised by BDA and the Bahrain Obstetrics and Gynaecology Association in Bahrain Medical Society, will take place from April 24 to 26 at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence and Spa, Manama.
It will bring together top medical professionals who will discuss a wide range of topics, including menopause, hormone replacement therapy, oral contraception, cervical smear management, breast cancer screening, hpv vaccination and more.
Obstetrics and gynaecology doctors, family physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and medical students are expected to attend the event that will be held under the theme, Empowering Women’s Health.
“Our field is steeped in history, dedication and progress and this represents an invaluable opportunity for all of us to delve into the latest advancements and trends that will continue to shape our practice,” the conference’s chairperson Dr Nouf Behzad said in a statement on the event’s website.
“Empowering women’s health is more than a theme, it’s a call to action. It urges us to expand our knowledge and challenge conventional approaches to revolutionise women’s healthcare, especially within obstetrics and gynaecology.
“Through thought-provoking discussions, we will explore key sub-specialties such as high-risk pregnancy, gynaecologic oncology, reproductive medicine and pelvic floor dysfunction.
“Together, let us approach this conference not merely as an event, but as a milestone in our shared journey towards enhancing women’s health.”
Dr Behzad, who is also a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology, added that pre-conference workshops will be held to enhance participants’ clinical skills. A workshop will also take place on the final day of the conference (April 26) at the same venue.
Some of the topics on the conference’s first day (April 24) include: Bahrain’s law on protection from domestic violence; Medical errors: how to be safe; Management of epilepsy during preconception, pregnancy and postpartum period; Genital bleaching - trends, techniques and safety considerations; Mommy makeover; Breaking the silence - The role of anxiety in women’s physical and mental health.
The second day (April 25) will feature topics such as: Understanding the clinical utility of tumour markers in gynaecological conditions; Recurrent miscarriage: Where we are; Is there an ovarian age; Male factor infertility - Role of gynaecologists in management/artificial intelligence in reproductive medicine; and Challenges in current medical treatment of endometriosis, from abnormal pap to rational plan and hpv vaccination.
Engaging discussions on controversial topics, including the use of cervical cerclage and elective C-sections upon patient request, examining perspectives and clinical considerations will also be staged.
Last year’s conference was attended by around 300 doctors and researchers in women’s health, who discussed difficulties in maternal and foetal health, as well as gynaecological illnesses and cancer.
