Almost a million visits were recorded to three popular events held as part of the Celebrate Bahrain season in December and January, a top tourism official has revealed.
More than 500,000 people visited Muharraq Nights, in addition to 200,000 each that visited Manama Retro and the Heritage Village.
This was revealed during a Press roundtable conducted by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) at the Suq Al Baraha in Diyar Al Muharraq yesterday.
“The Celebrate Bahrain season this year has been one of our most successful, and we met and exceeded our targets within the 2022-26 Tourism Strategy,” BTEA chief executive Sarah Buhiji told the GDN.
“The hotel occupancy rates, number of visitors and average spending targets have been met, if not exceeded.”
Ms Buhijji noted that Bahrain now has 148 four-star and five-star properties, with a total of 24,000 keys (rooms).
Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi announced in November last year that a diverse selection of world-renowned hotels had opened in Bahrain, with many more properties set to be inaugurated until 2026.
She added that it would add more than 3,000 new hotel rooms, further strengthening Bahrain’s position as a leading regional tourism hub.
Bahrain welcomed several new four-star and five-star hotels to the tourism sector last year. It is set to witness the launch of 12 more hotels until 2026.
