Bahrain and France have renewed their commitment to further strengthen their relations.
The commitments were voiced by His Majesty King Hamad and French President Emmanuel Macron during their meeting at the Élysée Palace yesterday.
His Majesty was visiting France at the invitation of President Macron.
Upon arrival at the Élysée Palace, His Majesty was received with an official welcome ceremony, with President Macron leading the reception.
At the onset of the meeting, His Majesty expressed his thanks to President Macron for the invitation and for the warm reception.
He also commended the French president’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
The leaders reviewed close partnership and co-operation between the two nations, and discussed means to enhance collaboration across various domains.
Both leaders expressed pride in the strong and historic relations between Bahrain and France. They affirmed their commitment to broadening co-operation to achieve mutual interests and benefits.
His Majesty underscored the deep-rooted and long-standing relations, noting their significant growth in various fields under the leadership of both nations.
The meeting also addressed regional and international developments.
On Lebanon, the King and the French president discussed the possibility of convening a reconstruction conference and supporting the new Lebanese authorities, and the need to fully respect the ceasefire on the Blue Line.
The two leaders also discussed the situation in Syria and the conference to be held in Paris on February 13 to support an inclusive political transition that respects the rights of all Syrians.
President Macron praised His Majesty’s role in strengthening ties and Bahrain’s continued co-operation and efforts to achieve security and stability in the region.
His Majesty also held talks with Unesco director-general Audrey Azoulay and LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault and a number of French businessmen.
He later returned to Bahrain.
