Ties between Bahrain and the World Health Organisation (WHO) are historic and robust, spanning more than 50 years of co-operation to protect people’s health, the organisation’s outgoing representative to Bahrain Dr Tasnim Atatra said.
“The establishment of the WHO office in Bahrain in 2021 testifies to solidity of bilateral partnership,” she told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
“Choosing Bahrain as chair of the WHO’s Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Antimicrobial Resistance (STAG-AMR) is a clear evidence of fruitful co-operation with the kingdom which has a distinguished experience in combating communicable diseases,” she said.
Dr Atatra took pride in working in Bahrain as the first WHO representative, thanking the leadership and health sector personnel for their support and co-operation.
She emphasised the importance of health and the need to keep pace with fast-paced global changes that pose new challenges to health systems.
Dr. Atatra commended Bahrain’s pioneering health programmes, describing the kingdom as a regional and international model to emulate. She also praised the kingdom’s efforts in handling Covid-19 pandemic. She said despite the pandemic’s grave impact on global economy and people’s health, it has paved the way for a new and more resilient global health system.
