Bahrain, which chairs the current session of the Arab Summit, is a pioneering model for promoting dialogue between religions and cultures, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said.
In remarks to the Italian media on the sidelines of her official visit to Bahrain, she also praised the kingdom’s role in consolidating the principles of peaceful coexistence and civilised dialogue.
Relations between Bahrain and Italy have witnessed a tangible development within the framework of the existing strategic co-operation, she pointed out.
Prime Minister Meloni pointed out that the kingdom’s reception of Pope Francis on a historic visit in 2022 reflects its firm commitment to promoting understanding between different religions and cultures.
The pope’s visit came as part of the kingdom’s efforts to consolidate communication between religions, which confirmed its role as a global centre for cultural dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
The visit of the Italian prime minister to the region comes as part of a tour to discuss regional and international issues of common interest, with a focus on the fields of trade, investment and development.
