The Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al Azhar, underscored the International Day of Human Fraternity as a significant occasion to promote shared human values, emphasising the principles of dialogue, tolerance, coexistence, peace and fraternity.
In a statement, the council highlighted the sixth anniversary of the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together, describing it as a milestone in modern humanitarian efforts.
Signed by Dr Al Tayeb and Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of UAE President Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the document has strengthened global solidarity and encouraged efforts to promote peace and coexistence.
Since its adoption, the document has inspired a global movement advocating tolerance, mutual respect, and unity. Acknowledging its significance, the United Nations General Assembly designated February 4 as the International Day of Human Fraternity in 2020, incorporating its principles into educational and national frameworks worldwide.
The council underscored its commitment to advancing human fraternity, stressing the need to translate the document’s principles into actionable initiatives.
The council continues to implement programmes and projects that instill these values in young generations, fostering a global culture of peace, understanding and mutual respect.
