SIX individuals have been sentenced to three months in prison for tax evasion, reports Nader Adnan.
The Lower Criminal Court yesterday also ordered the defendants, described only as Asians by authorities, to pay more than BD5,000 in due excise duties. According to case details, the suspects were found to have imported and sold select goods without paying any excise duty on them.
Authorities arrested the individuals, seized their goods and documented the violations before referring the case to the Public Prosecution.
During interrogation, the defendants were confronted with the evidence while National Bureau of Revenue officials were also questioned.
The accused were then referred to the Lower Criminal Court for trial.
