The first dirt bridge, used for land reclamation and the creation of islands on which Salman City was built in the north of Bahrain, has been removed after nearly 20 years of its construction.
The decision was made due to environmental issues related to it, Northern Municipal Council member Bassim Abu Idris said.
The initiative was taken to enhance the quality of life and protect the coastline, making the area safer and more attractive to visitors, he added.
The bridge, which extended into the sea from the Abu Subh coast walkway in Duraz, was separated from the islands after their preparation for residential construction was completed.
The bridge also served as a barrier and breakwater to protect Bandar Duraz.
