An emergency evacuation fire response drill was conducted at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) from 10am to noon yesterday.
The Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), which owns and manages BIA, announced in a statement that the drill was successfully conducted at the Central Utility Complex (CUC) within the airport.
The drill involved personnel from BAC and Gulf Air Group, working in co-operation with Operations Directorate of the Public Security Presidency, Airport Police, Civil Defence, Customs, the National Committee for Disaster Management and other government entities.
It tested the effectiveness of the emergency evacuation plan in case of fire and ensured the readiness of all emergency responders.
The exercise tested several key elements, including the readiness of the Emergency Co-ordination Centre and fire watchers, the response of fire wardens within the CUC building, and the emergency notification system of airport rescue and fire-fighting services.
It also provided an opportunity to identify areas for improvement in emergency response procedures and monitor the functionality of the fire alarm and communication systems.
Due to the drill, there was increased emergency vehicle activity near the airport during the exercise period but that did not affect airport operations or surrounding traffic.
