The Sama Bay project represents a continuation of initiatives to develop maritime tourism and a qualitative addition to the tourism sector in Muharraq Governorate, Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi has said.
She noted that waterfronts and marine activities are among the key pillars of the 2022-2026 tourism strategy, highlighting that the project offers an integrated tourism experience that includes marine, sports and entertainment activities, making it a distinctive destination for all age groups.
The minister highlighted that the new waterfront enhances Muharraq’s tourism appeal and highlights the beauty of the kingdom and its rich maritime heritage.
“Bahrain, as the only archipelagic country in the region, possesses unique capabilities to enhance maritime tourism,” Ms Al Sairafi said, noting that coastlines represent a key element in diversifying and developing the tourism product, which helps attract visitors from around the world and supports the goals of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) chief executive Sarah Buhejji emphasised that Sama Bay is one of the modern strategic projects aimed at enhancing family tourism, providing a variety of outdoor sports and entertainment activities, making it an ideal destination for citizens, residents and visitors.
She said that the project will include a wide range of services, restaurants and entertainment facilities, confirming that there is still room to attract innovative projects that contribute to enhancing the visitor experience and developing the tourism sector.
She noted that in the coming weeks, the project will host a series of events, activities and entertainment programmes, including art workshops, music, traditional performances and activities for children, further enhancing its appeal as a comprehensive entertainment destination.
Sama Bay extends over a distance of 2km, covering a total area of 100,000 sqm, with a capacity exceeding 3,000 visitors per day. It is designed as a unique waterfront destination that enhances the kingdom’s status as one of the most prominent tourism destinations in the region.
