An Arab national, who fled the kingdom after he was wanted for selling fraudulent concert tickets, has been handed over to authorities in Bahrain, the Public Prosecution confirmed yesterday.
The extradited fraudster, whose age and nationality were not revealed, had an international arrest warrant issued against him, and was received by the authorities following a joint international judicial effort.
According to the Public Prosecution’s International Co-operation and Human Rights Office head Abdulla Al Dossari, the convicted individual had been found guilty of scamming victims via social media, and illegally acquiring money from his victims.
He was sentenced to prison for these offences, the duration of which was not revealed. He managed to escape the country.
Following co-operation with an unnamed foreign country, Interpol and the International Affairs Directorate at the Interior Ministry, the fugitive was apprehended and extradited to Bahrain.
Procedures for enforcing his prison sentences have been initiated.
Mr Al Dossary reaffirmed the authorities’ dedication to combating crime and enforcing judicial rulings by leveraging Bahrain’s international legal agreements and adhering to international law in judicial co-operation.
