FLORISTS and jewellers across Bahrain have been bringing their A game this month as couples in the kingdom prepare to celebrate Valentine’s Day today.
Every February 14, lovers exchange presents and make their better halves feel special. While gifting red roses is an old-school tradition, newer floral trends are emerging globally this year. Younger couples are giving roses a pass, going for exotic blooms to express their affection.

“While the older generation still prefers the classic red roses, those aged between 25 and 30 are choosing tulips, anthuriums, gerberas and carnations,” Um Al Hassam-based Rasha Flower social media and sales in-charge Joel Fernandes told the GDN, adding that red and white still remain the popular colour of choice.
“Earlier, we would get orders mainly on Valentine’s Day and some a day earlier, but now, we are flooded with bookings from February 12 right up to the 14th,” he revealed.

This year, lovebirds around the world are showing a keener interest to personalise flower arrangements with symbols like hearts, or pairing them with gifts and chocolates, a pattern seen locally as well.
“Many customers come to us with images from Pinterest and Instagram as references. The younger lot want something different,” the Indian expatriate from Goa added.
Daniello Flowers in Sanabis is offering diverse packages available both in store and on the Talabat application, until midnight, catering to the last-minute gifters.

“We have a lot of advance orders but do accept on-the-spot orders as well. Our Talabat packages include centrepieces and bouquets with chocolate and coffee additions, and customised messages. A lovely thing that we have noticed is that gifts are not just given to partners during Valentine’s Day but to parents, siblings, other family members and friends as well,” said general manager Habib Al Hawaj.
