A unique art space officially opened its doors yesterday and welcomed artists and media on a special tour of the new facility in the heart of Souq Al Qaisariya in Muharraq.
Art Station, which hosted events during Muharraq Nights and has become the new headquarters for the Bahrain Arts Society, showcased its programmes during a tour led by National Arts Council chairman Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
A remodelling of the location began in 2023, with elements of traditional Bahraini architecture being fused with modern and contemporary motifs to create a creative hub dedicated to ‘nurturing education and innovation in art, design, architecture, and more’.

“We currently have seven artists in residence here, and we want to support emerging and established fine artists in Bahrain, by providing them with access to a space, as well as resources to grow their art practice,” Art Station director Shaikha Latifa bint Abdulrahman Al Khalifa explained.
“We are also passionate about fostering global cultural exchange by inviting distinguished artists and designers from around the world to work and share their expertise with local Bahraini talent.”

The Art Station features specialised studios, including spaces for fashion design, jewellery making, 3D design, photography and cooking.
There is also a gallery for running exhibitions, and the space has plans to open a retail shop to sell and showcase the work of local artists.
