A train collided with a herd of elephants in Sri Lanka on Wednesday night, resulting in the death of at least six elephants, according to police.
There were no passenger injuries, but veterinary officers are treating an injured female elephant and a calf in Giritale.
The Meenagaya train struck the herd at the 140 km mark between Minneriya and Galoya stations at around 11:30 pm.
Authorities are investigating the incident, and officials from the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Railway Department, and police co-ordinated the response.
