Three fishermen have been arrested for illegal fishing activities.
The Coastguard apprehended the Asian individuals in the Fasht Al Adhm area, located off the east coast of the main island. According to a statement by the Interior Ministry, the suspects were caught using bottom trawl nets, known as ‘Al Koufa’, which are prohibited under Bahrain’s fishing regulations.
Additionally, they were found in possession of shrimp, whose fishing is banned during this period of the year.

Trawling is an industrial method of fishing that involves pulling a large net through the water behind one or more boats, and can be devastating to marine habitats. The Coastguard emphasised its commitment to monitoring and addressing any violations that threaten Bahrain’s marine resources.
Authorities called on all fishermen to adhere to the country’s regulations to ensure sustainability of marine life and fisheries within Bahrain’s territorial waters.
