VOLLEYBALL – BAHRAIN’S Al Ahli pulled off a stunning victory in a five-set thriller against back-to-back champions Dar Kulaib last night in the first week of the Top Six round in the 2024-25 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League.
Ahli, fresh from winning a bronze medal last week in the third West Asian Clubs Volleyball Championship for Men, which was hosted by the kingdom, twice gave up a one-set advantage in the contest but did enough to stay afloat. They finally sealed the hard-earned victory in the fifth set, beating their rivals 3-2 (25-22, 24-26, 25-15, 19-25, 15-8) at Isa bin Rashid Arena at Isa Sports City in Riffa.
With the result, Ahli joined Muharraq and Nabih Saleh as winners from week one in this stage of the league.
Muharraq also needed to go a maximum of five sets to oust Al Najma whereas Nabih Saleh battled back from a set down to defeat Al Nasser in four sets.
