BAHRAIN and Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement that aims to enhance environmental co-operation by digitising afforestation efforts, documenting trees and calculating their environmental benefits.
The agreement aligns with the objectives of the ‘Forever Green’ campaign and the ‘Middle East Green Initiative’.
Under the deal, 50,000 trees will be monitored using Net Zero’s Treemap technology, which enables tree documentation, digitisation and environmental impact assessment.
The agreement also includes support for joint environmental research, development of technologies to enhance community participation in agricultural development in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and the adoption of trees through the innovative Treewallet application.
The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) signed the accord yesterday with Saudi Arabia-based Net Zero Environmental during the Bahrain International Garden Show, which is being held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad at Exhibition World Bahrain.
NIAD secretary general Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa emphasised that the partnership marks a significant step towards environmental digitalisation and the integration of advanced technologies in afforestation and sustainability projects.
She noted NIAD’s commitment to environmental sustainability in Bahrain and its vision for leveraging smart solutions to measure the impact while encouraging community involvement in expanding green spaces.
