Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam has highlighted Bahrain’s ongoing dedication to peace as a strategic choice that consolidates peaceful coexistence and human fraternity.
He reiterated Bahrain’s firm stance in supporting the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Mr Al Musallam participated in the 7th Arab Parliament Conference in Cairo, held in co-operation with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union. The conference focused on supporting Palestinian resilience, rejecting displacement and annexation plans and countering efforts to undermine the Palestinian cause.
He emphasised the efforts of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and its commitment to peace.
As Bahrain chairs the 33rd Arab Summit this year, he expressed support for holding an emergency Arab summit in Cairo to discuss recent regional developments and the Palestinian issue.
The conference, chaired by Arab Parliament president Mohammed Ahmed Al Yamahi, brought together Arab League secretary general Ahmed Aboul Gheit; Algerian National People’s Assembly speaker Ibrahim Boughali, who is also Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union president, and Arab parliamentary leaders.
Mr Al Musallam conveyed the greetings of His Majesty and his wishes for the conference’s success.
He highlighted the ongoing developments in the Arab region and the severe humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinian people due to the continued conflict threatening their existence.
He stressed the need for Arab parliamentarians to unify their stance, strengthen co-ordination and align positions in regional and international parliamentary forums.
He strongly condemned the irresponsible Israeli statements regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state on Saudi territory, as well as the American remarks suggesting the displacement of Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan. He described these proposals as blatant violations of international law and the UN Charter.
He pointed to the 7th Arab Parliament Conference coinciding with Bahrain’s hosting of the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference under His Majesty’s patronage, themed ‘One Nation, One Destiny’.
He noted that the conference, held on Wednesday and Thursday, builds on Bahrain’s efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, following the Bahrain dialogue forum held in November 2022, attended by Al Azhar Grand Imam Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb and Pope Francis.
The Speaker noted Parliament’s firm stance against all displacement proposals and any attempts to undermine the Palestinian cause. He expressed the delegation’s support for the conference’s final document, which outlines unified parliamentary measures to reinforce Palestinian resilience, defend their inalienable rights, and enhance Arab parliamentary diplomacy on regional and international platforms.
Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh participated in a closed session of Arab parliamentary leaders.
The session, chaired by Mr Al Yamahi, focused on reviewing a draft document prepared by the Arab Parliament in collaboration with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union to support Palestinian resilience and reject displacement and annexation plans. The document will be submitted to Arab leaders at the emergency Arab summit in Egypt on March 4.
