The Cabinet yesterday reviewed the availability of consumer goods in the market during Ramadan and the stability of their prices.
The session, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa at Gudaibiya Palace, commended the efforts of the Industry and Commerce Ministry, Bahrain Chamber and the commercial sector for ensuring price stability and the abundance of consumer goods during the holy month, which is likely to start early next week.
The Cabinet extended its best wishes to His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the advent of Ramadan.
The Cabinet also wished for a blessed month for Bahrain, its people and the Arab and Islamic nations.
More than 200 traders have pledged to keep prices stable during Ramadan this year and Bahrain Chamber officials have assured people in Bahrain that there are sufficient stocks of essential food items, with hypermarkets and retail stores offering special promotions and discounts ahead of the holy month, as reported by the GDN.
Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro also underscored that the ministry continues to intensify its efforts to ensure the supply of adequate quantities of various goods and to enhance the smooth preparations ahead of Ramadan.
This includes ensuring essential food items are available and promotional offers are accurate as part of the ministry’s market monitoring to maintain a steady supply of goods year-round, especially during special occasions, the minister said.
He highlighted that as part of the efforts, the ministry’s consumer protection directorate has launched the third edition of the Consumer-Friendly initiative ahead of Ramadan. The initiative aims to ensure goods, especially food items, remain available and prices stable by offering discounted Ramadan baskets in co-operation with the private sector.
