A near-miss collision between a private jet and a Southwest Airlines plane in Chicago on Tuesday morning is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
A video circulating online shows Southwest Flight 2504 almost touching down at Midway International Airport, but then taking off again to avoid a plane crossing the runway.
According to the FAA, the private jet entered the runway without prior authorisation, prompting the Southwest crew to initiate a "go-around" to prevent a collision.
Southwest confirmed the safe landing of the flight in a statement: "The crew followed safety procedures, and the flight landed without incident. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees."
A spokesperson from the luxury private jet service Flexjet said, "Flexjet adheres to the highest safety standards, and we are conducting a thorough investigation. Any action to rectify, and ensure the highest safety standards will be taken.”
