Customs officers at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi caught one Indian passenger arriving from Jeddah with gold concealed in dates.
The 56-year-old man, who arrived on flight SV-756, was intercepted by the officials at the exit of the Green Channel on February 26.
During the X-ray scan of the baggage, suspicious images were noticed. Additionally, when the passenger passed through the Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD), a strong beep sound was heard.
Further examination of the baggage led to the recovery of assorted yellow metal cut pieces and a chain, all believed to be gold, totaling 172 grams, concealed inside dates.
An investigation is underway.
