A sales representative at a multinational Chinese electronics company, who stole devices worth BD33,090 and resold them, has lost his final appeal at the Cassation Court.
He was convicted of exploiting his position as a collections officer and an employee entrusted with valuable items to profit off of the company.
In January 2024, the Lower Criminal Court sentenced the Pakistani to a year behind bars and ordered that he reimburse the company BD33,090.
He will be deported after completing his sentence.
The company, valued at more than $178 billion, sells smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices.
“As a sales marketing supervisor, the appellant’s job was to sell products and also give away free devices as presents to clients,” read the Cassation Court verdict.
“He would sell these devices, instead of gifting them to clients, and kept the revenue for himself.”
The defendant appealed the verdict at the High Criminal Appeals Court in February 2024, which upheld the sentence.
Another plea filed at the Cassation Court was also struck down.
According to Bahrain’s highest court, the appeal was rejected since the evidence the conviction was based on, was considered sound and sufficient.
The conviction was based on a police report, witness statements and a court-ordered financial audit.
The crime reportedly took place between 2021 and 2023 in the Capital Governorate.
