Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak conducted an inspection visit to Muharraq Central Market to review the market’s services and commercial activity in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.
The minister emphasised the ministry’s commitment to the continuous development of central markets to meet the needs of visitors and provide best services for traders and vendors. He noted that Muharraq Central Market, upgraded through a public-private partnership, is one of Bahrain’s most vital central markets, serving as a key hub for food sales and supplying Muharraq Governorate and neighbouring areas with essential goods and products.
Mr Al Mubarak emphasised that the market’s modernisation serves as a model for upgrading central markets across Bahrain. He reiterated the ministry’s focus on improving municipal services to enhance the shopping experience and working conditions while ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency.
He commended the market’s improvements in infrastructure, organisation, and services, aligning with visitor expectations. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to develop central markets across different regions, noting the recent upgrade of Riffa Central Market and the ongoing construction of Hamad Town Central Market.
The minister emphasised the importance of private sector partnerships in enhancing market services to meet consumer needs and elevate the overall standard of central markets.
The redeveloped Muharraq Central Market spans 28,000sqm, four times its previous size, and features 61 shops, 24 vegetable stalls, 36 meat stalls, and 42 fish stalls. It includes a hypermarket on the first floor and a ground-level car park with a capacity for 180 vehicles, making it one of Bahrain’s largest and most advanced central markets.
