Researchers from Toho University in Japan published a new study recently that found that the fat around your belly plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy brain.
The study found that CX3CL1, a protein found in fat, actively contributes to maintaining healthy levels of BDNF, a protein vital for memory, learning, and mood regulation.
The researchers, therefore, made the correlation that belly fat actively contributes to heightening brain functions, though previous research has established that carrying extra fat around your midsection is harmful to you and will increase your risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.
