WASHINGTON - The Department of State announced late Monday that Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff would be visiting the Middle East to discuss the extension of the Gaza ceasefire agreement's first phase.
In a press release, a foreign department spokesperson added that the visit would also possibly bring into the table efforts to move forward into the second phase of the agreement.
The source indicated that President Donald Trump's US administration reiterated the need for the release of the rest of the "hostages" including American nationals.
Israeli occupation authorities took a decision to halt the entry of humanitarian relief aid into the Gaza Strip by the end of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement. It closed all border crossings leading to the Gaza Strip.
Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened Hamas with "dire consequences" if the remaining captives were not released from the Gaza Strip.
