Washington: Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of Bahrain to the United States, emphasised that the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence, observed annually on January 28, represents a significant global achievement. The initiative, proposed by the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, underscores Bahrain’s commitment to fostering tolerance and intercultural dialogue.
Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid highlighted the Kingdom’s role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening interfaith dialogue.
Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid noted that this initiative is part of Bahrain’s broader efforts to advance a culture of peace. These include the establishment of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, the launch of the King Hamad Award for Peaceful Coexistence, the Kingdom of Bahrain Declaration, the organisation of global conferences on interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and calls for an international convention to criminalise hate speech.
Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid emphasised that these initiatives reinforce Bahrain’s commitment to promoting tolerance, rejecting extremism and hatred, and fostering global solidarity for the collective good of humanity.
