Bahrain witnessed moderate rainfall and thunder storms in some regions yesterday.
The unstable weather conditions is expected to continue today, with the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s Meteorological Directorate forecasting scattered rain, which could become thunderous at times, accompanied by strong gusts. Seafarers and travellers on the roads have been urged to exercise caution.
The General Directorate of Traffic called on drivers to be vigilant while driving in the rain, emphasising the need to adhere to the speed limits, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and avoid distraction.
The Electricity and Water Authority advised people to ensure the safety of electrical connections, check the efficiency of grounding and protection systems in homes, and seek assistance from a certified electrical contractor when necessary. It also warned against touching streetlight poles to prevent the risk of electric shock.
The Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry advised citizens to check the integrity of waterproofing on their roofs and ensure that drainage openings on rooftops are clear and functioning properly.
The Works and Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture ministries affirmed their readiness to handle waterlogging on roads, ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow and proper drainage system operations.
The Works Ministry said it had carried out regular maintenance work, including cleaning drainage inlets, servicing pumping stations, and clearing open channels in all areas.
Officials urged residents to refrain from opening sewage covers, especially during rainfall, as it could lead to flooding and traffic disruptions, besides damaging the network and posing health and environmental risks.
The Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry emphasised its ongoing co-ordination with authorities, including the Capital Municipality, municipal councils, and emergency teams, to manage rainwater accumulation in residential areas. It has mobilised specialised teams, water tankers, and pumps as part of its rain response plan. The ministry also continues infrastructure maintenance efforts, including removing vegetation from drainage channels and addressing areas prone to waterlogging, in collaboration with municipal councils.
