Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani yesterday participated in the joint ministerial meeting between the foreign ministers of the GCC, Egypt, Syria and Morocco, held in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was chaired by Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al Yahya, who is president of the current GCC session, while Egypt was represented by its Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptians Abroad Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty. GCC Secretary General Jassim Al Budaiwi was also in attendance.
Discussions focused on strengthening historical ties between the GCC and Egypt. They also addressed enhancing co-operation across various fields and advancing shared interests.
The GCC Secretariat was assigned to co-ordinate with Egypt on implementing co-operation plans in key areas. Both sides also agreed to hold the GCC-Egypt investment forum in the second half of the year.
The meeting reviewed regional developments, ongoing challenges, and joint Arab efforts to promote security and stability.
The ministers emphasised their commitment to supporting the upcoming international conference for the reconstruction of Gaza, to be hosted by Egypt, and addressed regional and international issues of common concern.
The officials also discussed ways to enhance co-operation with Syria in political, economic and developmental fields, to support the efforts of the interim government to protect its sovereignty and the safety of people, and maintain security and stability.
They outlined the Gulf action plan for Syria, where the Ministerial Council affirmed the GCC countries’ support for the Syrian leadership and its efforts for development, reconstruction and prosperity.
Bahrain’s delegation included Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Shaikh Ali bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa and senior officials from the Foreign Ministry.
