Foreign Minister and National Human Rights Committee chairman Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani has highlighted Bahrain’s efforts in promoting gender equality and empowering women as key contributors to the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The minister extended his congratulations to the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and SCW president, and to all Bahraini women, on International Women’s Day. He noted that this year’s International Women’s Day under the theme ‘For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment’, coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
Dr Al Zayani emphasised Bahrain’s pride in the achievements of Bahraini women, who have advanced beyond empowerment to become key partners in national progress. He highlighted their contributions, rooted in principles of justice, equality, human rights and gender balance, and supported by Bahrain’s constitutional and legislative framework in line with international standards, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Beijing Declaration.
The minister commended Bahraini women for their success in leadership roles across executive, judicial and legislative fields, as well as their contributions to decision making and sustainable development. He underscored their active role in supporting national strategies, including the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, the National Human Rights Plan (2022-2026), and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
He also underlined Bahrain’s global efforts in promoting women’s empowerment, including the Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment, launched in co-operation with UN Women, and the kingdom’s active participation in various international and regional organisations and committees.
Dr Al Zayani emphasised that International Women’s Day is an opportunity to highlight Bahrain’s commitment to supporting women’s rights and their role in the King’s comprehensive development process. He commended the contributions of Bahraini women in the Foreign Ministry and diplomatic missions, as well as their efforts in peacebuilding and sustainable development at local, regional and international levels.
