The High Civil Court of Appeal has ordered a private hospital and a female doctor to pay a couple BD60,000 compensation for a medical error that caused cerebral palsy and a 90 per cent physical disability to their baby during birth.
A report by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA)’s technical committee showed that the doctor’s use of a suction device instead of performing a cesarean surgery resulted in cerebral palsy to the baby, a physical disability, and convulsions due to birth asphyxia and lack of oxygen to the central nervous system and brain.
